Complete denture fabrication of edentulous patient withsevere alveolar bone resorption using suction mechanism: A case report / 대한치과보철학회지

Fabrication of complete denture with suction mechanism was introduced to enhance the retention and stability of denture by sealing around the denture border by formingnegative pressure on the inner side of denture base during functional movement such as swallowing or masticating. Mandibular suction dentures reduce denture dislodgingforce during opening by taking preliminary impression without pressure on retromolar pad area in rest position. In this case, fabrication of complete denture using suctionmechanism for an edentulous patient with severe alveolar bone resorption allowed us to clinically enhance retention and stability of denture and improve satisfaction ofpatient. The loss of posterior support and the abnormal jaw relation can cause pathologic findings. If deep bite patients with multiple missing teeth, can not have the stable posterior contact, the mandible moves posteriorly, and consequently the overjet and overbite get worse. And when the mandibular irregular occlusal plane is corrected, it is easier to have the bilateral balanced occlusion with the maxilla. So the treatment goal is to give proper posetrior support and establish appropriate anterior guidance, and ultimately provide improved mastication and esthetics recovery. In this case, a 68 year old man, having deep bite without posterior support was evaluated by the vertical dimesion decision flow-chart. An available prosthetic height, anterior occlusal relation such as overjet, overbite and the esthetic part such as facial height and the cephalometric analysis are the factors to be considered.

Multiple tooth loss and excessive occlusal wear can result in damage to occlusal disharmony, functional disorders and esthetic problems, requiring comprehensive prosthetic treatments. Changing vertical dimension harmonized with surrounding muscle tissue is important. In this case, the patient with loss of vertical dimension caused by severe tooth loss and tooth wear was treated with the analysis of vertical dimension, such as diagnostic model, radiography and various clinical exams. the patient was satisfied with favorable functions and esthetics for 1 years of follow-up.

Hyperprolactinemia after taking Levosulpiride and its Causality Assessment: An Adverse Event Reported by a Community Pharmacy

Levosulpiride is one of the most frequently prescribed medicines in Korea. An adverse drug reaction (ADR) after taking levosulpiride was reported at a community pharmacy in Korea. A 31-year-old woman reported the symptoms of lactation and amenorrhea after taking levosulpiride; an evaluation of whether these symptoms were caused by the medication was therefore necessary. Several tools can be used to determine if the ADR resulted from the administered drug or other factors, including the World Health Organization-Uppsala Monitoring Centre (WHO-UMC) criteria, the Naranjo scale, and the Korean causality assessment algorithm (Ver. 2). The causality was evaluated as “possible” by the WHO-UMC and Naranjo scales, but as “probable” by the Korean causality assessment algorithm (Ver. 2). In conclusion, the information provided did not indicate definite causality and there were slight differences in the results obtained from each assessment method.
